Overview

The company's main activity during its early years was centred around an engineering workshop and its annexed cast iron foundry and aimed at satisfying the increasing demands of the rapidly expanding Lombardy industry at the start of the century.

During following years, the company added the construction of machines to its production, in particular positive-displacement pumps and compressors.

The first patent for a hollow disc rotary pump was registered in 1918. The principle patented at the time is being used in a series of pumps still in production.

The 1950's saw the design and production of the first plunger dosing pumps. The range of dosing pumps has since been expanded with the introduction of a number of diaphragm dosing pumps during the 70's.

During the 1980's, OMG initiated the introduction of a formalised quality system, with the first complete quality system being adopted in 1992.

In the spring of 1996, OMG quality system was certified as conforming to ISO 9001. In order to satisfy the increasing demands from leading engineering companies and major international industrial groups, in the 1970's OMG expanded its activities to include the design and construction of package dosing systems, manufactured according to customer's specifications and the main governing standards.

The dosing system sector has progressively been developed to the extent that, since the early 90's, OMG has become one of the principal competitors in this particular market, presenting itself as a versatile and reliable supplier.

Facilities

OMG has two principal establishments:

Located in the city centre with around 20 employees taking care of both technical-sales and administrative activities. All our commercial staff are engineering graduates specialised in the process pumps and dosing system sector, available to customers for any type of technical consultation, whether it be on the pumps themselves or system characteristics.

Extending over an area of 11,000 m˛, with 7000 m˛ under cover, the works are the core of our production activities. The factory is located in an enviable position at the centre of one of the main European industrial areas, approximately 1 km and 5 km respectively from the “autostrada dei laghi” (the Lakes motorway connecting Milan with central Europe) (Gallarate exit) and the new Milan Malpensa international airport.
The works houses the manufacturing and production control departments, in particular:

warehouse (over 1500 m˛) mechanical machining: with over 50 machine tools, of which 12 are numerically controlled assembly: covering an area of 800 m˛ welding and dosing systems assembly: employing welders qualified to ASME standards and covering an area in excess of 800 m˛. The department is equipped with all the latest machinery necessary for welding pipe and structural steel. test laboratory: covering an area of over 500 m˛ and employing a technical staff of 6 painting and despatch: including a spray paint booth and modern facilities for packing construction

The Gallarate works also houses the following departments:

engineering and design: employing designers utilising an integrated CAD network equipped with two- and three-dimensional CAD systems for mechanical and system design. project co-ordination department: looking after the co-ordination of the principal production projects and, in particular, the construction of dosing systems.

In total, around 100 people, including support staff, are employed at the Gallarate works.

Production processes

Unlike other pump manufacturers, OMG has chosen to retain all the design and construction activities in-house, maintaining a higher level of quality control and greater internal flexibility in satisfying the specific requirements of the principal users.

In particular, OMG also has an extensive mechanical machining shop with 12 numerically controlled machines, consisting of:

• 4 work centres
• 6 parallel lathes
• 1 grinding machine
• 1 measuring machine for carrying out automatic dimensional checks of machined components

In addition to the numerically controlled machines, the OMG workshop also utilises over 40 traditional machine tools, all operating at maximum efficiency thanks to a intensive preventive maintenance program.

All our pumps are fully assembled in our assembly department. Each individual pump is run-in and tested at the factory's test laboratory to ascertain its fault-free operation and total compliance with the customer's requirements, all in accordance with the setting-up and inspection procedures of the OMG certified quality system.

The design of the dosing pumps and systems is performed directly by the company's own engineering department which, thanks to its wealth of experience and the most recent CAD design tools, is able to satisfy the technical requirements of all major clients and users.
